Feature Highlight

What is Dub Mode in The Choicer Voicer?

Introduced in version 0.5.0+, Dub Mode elevates vocal party gaming by tying live microphone performances directly to full-motion video clips. Instead of reading audio prompts in a vacuum, you see the actual movie or anime scene playing on screen.

The engine automatically mutes the original character dialogue when your recording begins while keeping background music, explosions, and sound effects playing seamlessly via the isolated _backing_track layer.

1. OGV Video Sync

Video playback runs in lockstep with millisecond countdown bars and subtitle displays.

2. Isolated Backing SFX

Background soundtrack and ambient Foley effects stay active while character dialogue is muted for you to voice.

3. Multi-Character Dubs

Split dialogue lines between multiple players in local co-op (e.g., one voices Fiona while another voices Shrek).

How to Create Custom Dub Scenes in 4 Steps

Overview of the scene authoring pipeline. Follow our linked technical wiki for deep-dive Audacity and FFmpeg commands.

1

Convert Video to OGV

Convert your source clip to Ogg Theora (.ogv) format using FFmpeg or HandBrake for native Godot decoding.

2

Isolate Backing Track

Use AI vocal isolation tools (like Ultimate Vocal Remover) to create a clean instrumental/SFX _backing_track.wav.

3

Slice Dialogue Clips

Export numbered vocal lines (01_line.wav, 02_line.wav) with accompanying .txt subtitle files.

4

Set Timestamps

In-game under Extras → Edit Clip Metadata, configure exact start/end millisecond timestamps and enable "dub-only".
